چکیده

Abstract The spillways are one of the most important hydraulic structures used in river engineering, dam construction, irrigation, and drainage engineering projects. Recently, a new type such with circular crest has been proposed. In this paper, properties crested stepped spillway (CCSS) including flow pattern, distribution velocity on pressure, turbulence intensity, discharge coefficient ( $${C}_{d}$$ C d ) energy dissipation ratio (EDR) were investigated numerically. To model free surface volume fluid technique, for modeling flow, k ? ? (RNG) was utilized. Results declared that there is good agreement between laboratory observations numerical simulation. CCSS changes 0.9 1.4 considering range relative upstream head $${h}_{up}/R$$ h up / R 0.33 m 2.67. observation streamlines showed they tangential to curvature no separation from crest. Examination pressure shows just downstream part crest, partially negative. Of course, same partial negative observed edge steps. steps increase maximum intensity by 50%. can dissipate 90 30%, skimming regime, portion each step regardless their position almost identical.

Model Investigations of Stepped Spillway

Stepped block protection has considerable potential as a low-cost method for the construction of chute spillways and the protection of embankments from erosion by overtopping flow. Stepped spillways are structurally stable, resistant to water loads and significantly increase the rate of energy dissipation on the spillway face thus eliminating or greatly reducing the need for a large energy diss...

Stepped Spillway Flows and Air Entrainment

Stepped spillways have become a popular method for handling flood releases. The steps increase significantly the rate of energy dissipation taking place on the spillway face and reduce the size of the required downstream energy dissipation basin. The compatibility of stepped spillways with roller compacted concrete (RCC) and gabion construction techniques results in low additional cost for the ...

Influence of Slope and the Number of Steps on Energy Dissipation in Stepped Spillway Using Numerical Model

Recently the stepped spillways have been used as an appropriate solution for energy dissipation. In the present study, Siahbisheh dam spillway is simulated by using Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD), in which the Mixture method and Reynolds Stresses Model (RSM) turbulence model is used. In the first modeling series the over all steppes slope is constant. The number of the steps is increased to ...

Numerical Simulation of Sediment-Laden Flow Around a Circular Cylinder

In this paper, the sediment-laden flow around a circular cylinder is numerically simulated in order to obtain better understanding of hydrodynamics associated. A range of cases with different Reynolds numbers (Re) are studies. The effects of the concentration of the sediment on the drag coefficient are investigated. Results show that due to the fact that the laden sand particle colliding the cy...

Two-Phase Flow on a Gabion Stepped Spillway: Cavity and Seepage Air-Water Motion

On a stepped spillway, the steps contribute to some dissipation of the turbulent kinetic energy, while free-surface aeration can be very intense. The aim of this study is to investigate the two-phase flow properties on a gabion stepped spillway, including both free-surface and seepage flows, as well as the bubbly flow interactions at the gabion interface. Detailed measurements were conducted in...
